Okay, so we scoped out the zoo last Saturday.
It's literally a photographer's playground.
There's even a sign that says, "Please, no feeding the photographers."
Nah, just kidding. It didn't really say that.
But, immediately as we entered, we noticed models in front of snapping SLRs
striking poses in caves and in long dirt trails.. It felt like home.

We really do belong in the zoo! (The L.A. Zoo!)
At least in the old one, that is.
Our purpose was to take sample pics of
this abandoned zoo before trekking our models out there in full force.
This location has that essence of
...a land that time forgot.

We ran into a couple of cool industry cats who shared our interest in this beloved park. Shane was dressed in 1930/40's attire looking like a wise guy. What a stand up guy he was for letting me take this shot.. Photographing Shane (prior to us), was Nathan, a fellow Veteran-turned film student. (Hmm, who does that remind me of?)
It was refreshing to have encountered such the 'urban/art/civilian' camaraderie, if you will. I know I got spoiled living on base and I dissed LA traffic every chance I got. But I must say, I really do love mah hood. It took being away for 5 yrs. on Uncle Sam's watch in order for me to return to that free-flowing L.A. groove. An eminent buzz for the homegrown. As for Erik, yeah I think he digs it.
Then again, he is a Chi-Town Boy, but we (Angelinos) won't hold that against him.
This was a fun day, indeed. The next time we come back, we hope to have more people with us. Creating...Well, who know's what... ?
